Ahhh! We fell in love with Springs Preserve!
This place is awesome! And is an amazing sustainability education resource to the people of Las Vegas and visitors from all over the world.
It was created on top of the original water source for the city of Las Vegas, but when the springs and the underlying aquifer ran dry in 1960 locals searched for another source – Lake Mead via the Colorado River, all thanks to the Hoover Dam.
Since then, the springs has been used by the local utility as a backup water supply. The 180 acres around the springs has been turned into a nature preserve, but it’s more than just trails, it also has a museum with all sorts of exhibits on water, wildlife, history, and the future. But what we loved the most was that it taught the public about sustainability and their impact on the ecosystems around them, much like our mission on the Creative Animal Tour.
